What can the dentist do for swollen/ receding gums? Please help?

You have to use a soft toothbrush and brush softly because excessive force can damage furthermore your inflamed gums. If you are on early stage of the disease maybe only professional oral hygiene is enough but if you have severe periodontitis your dentist might need to do scaling and root planing, gingivectomy, surgery to clean periodontal pocket etc...
